SUMMARY: 

Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine accounting functions with moderate complexity in accordance with standard procedures.  The Accounting Intern performs routine accounting activities such as maintenance of the accounts payable and accounts receivable.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Process Vendor invoices resolving purchase order /invoice discrepancies; verify that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures ensuring that vendors and suppliers are paid within established time limits.

Prepare, verify, and process invoices and coding payment documents

Prepare batches of invoices for data entry

Data entry of A/P invoices for payment

Process weekly check run

Enter new customers/vendors into SAP maintaining updated customer files and file numbers.

Assist Cash Manager with special projects as required.

Process customer A/R invoices.

Process daily cash receipts.

Cash collection.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Attention to detail and high level of accuracy. Possess excellent communication skills both verbal and written.  Proficiency with various software programs including Word, Excel and Outlook.  Experience with 10 key by touch.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Some college coursework in accounting and a High School diploma or GED certificate

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time, walk and reach with hands and arms.  Occasional light lifting of reams of paper or books up to 20 lbs. or equivalent may be required.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focuses.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

A typical office environment with no major sources of discomfort.  Essentially a normal controlled working environment with noise levels within acceptable safety limits and.acceptable lighting and temperature conditions.
