Set up and operate all phases of processing pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and electromechanical assemblies for Space. Assemble and test production hardware and their subassemblies by following blueprint and other written and/or verbal specifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform work duties provided by immediate Lead, Supervisor or Manager.
- Clean, assemble and test various valves and filters following written procedures and other appropriate documentation.
- Interpret assembly setup requirements from written procedures and successfully complete assembly.
- Interpret test system schematics and successfully construct test system by obtaining correct system components and fabrication of stainless steel tubing, including cutting, bending and flaring.
- Interpret test setup requirements from written procedures and successfully test component.
- Perform testing using gases (Nitrogen and helium) and water.
- Perform testing at ambient temperatures as well as extreme cold and hot temperatures during thermal testing.
- Read and interpret test data, and record neatly and accurately on appropriate data sheets.
- Recognize and report any out-of-family conditions or discrepancies.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times.
- Maintain assembly and test setups in good working order.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- The technician must have a minimum of five (5) years experience in a similar work environment.
- Must be able to setup and operate tools required for assembly including, but not limited to; standard hand tools, load testing devices, micrometers, depth mics, calipers and microscopes.
- Technician must possess basic blueprint reading and comprehension skills.
- Must be able to setup and operate equipment required for testing including, but not limited to; multimeters, ohmmeters, voltmeters, pressure, gauges and transducers, data recorders, load cells, and flowmeters.
- Good verbal and written English communication skills.
- Basic mathematic skills required to calculate simple formulas and conversions.
- Strong reasoning ability a must.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of five (5) year similar job experience preferably in an aerospace manufacturing environment or a combination of education and work experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Regularly lift up to 10 lbs and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. (such as working at a test bench). Must have good dexterity with hands and fingers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however at times may be slightly above normal. Personal Safety Equipment (PSE) is available and required when the environment dictates their use. Technicians will be exposed to systems containing high pressure gases and liquids, up to 5,500 psig in most all testing areas, and up to 20,000 psig in the proof/burst pressure test cells. In the pre-clean areas, technicians will be using aqueous solutions for cleaning as well as pickling and passivation solutions. Below is a listing of specific assembly and test areas and their special environmental conditions. • Clean Rooms Technicians assigned to work in the clean room are required to complete training on clean room protocol per VI-1000 before working unsupervised and without escort in the clean room. Technicians working in the clean rooms must wear appropriate clothing while in the clean room and adhere to clean room protocol without exception. All Clean rooms are in a controlled environment. Large quantities of Isopropyl Alcohol and DI water are used in the clean rooms for component cleaning. Occasionally, exotic solvents such as HFE-7100 and AK-225 are also used. • Navy Test Pad Technicians assigned to work on the Navy test pad are required to complete training on system operation with the responsible Manager/Supervisor before working in this area. This area is capable of extremely high flow rates which produce potentially high-noise levels. Technicians must adhere to all safely rules and appropriate PSE’s must be worn in this area. • Fuel Test Area Technicians assigned to work in this area will usually be required to work with Stoddard Solvent. Stoddard Solvent is used to test and therefore, exposure to the solvent is essential to performing normal duties in this area. Suitable PSE including gloves and glasses are required. • FAA Repair Station Technicians assigned to this area will be working with high flow air components; therefore, the sound level in this area is generally slightly above normal when testing. PSE’s such as glasses and ear protection are required for certain tasks.
