 SUMMARY: 

 

The Chief Engineer is the executive in charge of Vacco Industries technological needs, research and development (R&D) and designs. This individual examines the short- and long-term needs of Vacco industries and utilizes capital to make investments designed to help the organization reach its objectives. This person also manages technical resources and ensure they are geared towards technological development. The Chief Engineer is required to build a meaningful succession path for the right individuals, mentor them to grow in this path under technology career path. The Chief Engineer must have a business acumen along with technology drive. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

Strategic Scope: 

  • Present reports on the company's technology status, goals and or progress (Technology Readiness Level) 

  • Create and implement technology strategies, roadmaps. Managing the company's technological plans 

  • Align the company's technology resources with the organization's short- and long-term goals. 

  • Envisioning how different forms of technology will be used throughout product line of the company. 

  • Lead the strategy for technology platforms, partnerships, and external relationships. 

  • Take the initiative in thought leadership, innovation, and creativity. 

  • Work closely with Marketing, Business Development and Operations to define and deliver new products and enhancements. 

  • Keep abreast of new trends and best practices in the technology landscape. 

Management & Delivery Scope: 

  • Represent the technological agenda in staff meetings and when making hiring decisions, Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and training.  

  • Identify, compare, select, and implement technology solutions to meet current and future needs. 

  • Serve on the executive committee to align technology goals to other business product lines, and organizational objectives. 

  • Identify what technologies can be used to improve the company's products and services. 

  • Deploy value engineering practices to contribute into companies cost optimization goals. 

  • Ensuring technologies / products currently in use / production are efficient and making changes wherever necessary. 

  • Identifying, understanding persistent issues /challenges  

  • Oversee all system design /Product Designs and changes 

Budgets, Standards & Measures: 

 

  • Create overall technology standards and practices and ensure adherence. 

  • Create and oversee high-level KPIs for department. 

  • Track, analyze and monitor technology performance metrics. 

  • Develop, track, and control the development of annual operating and capital budgets for purchasing, staffing and operations.

  • An ability to liaise well with others and source information efficiently. 

  • Communication skills with people of all levels throughout the organization they work for. 

  • An ability to research and predict the ways that different technologies can impact an organization’s development. 

  • Budgeting skills are also important, as CTOs usually need to work within a budget. 

  • The ability to mentor others who are further down in their team. 

  • An ability to respond well to constructive feedback. 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

 

This requires at least a master’s degree in mechanical, electronics, aerospace engineering or equivalent, with extensive technology development & management experience. Management degree such as MBA or equivalent is a plus. Must have at least 16 plus years of relevant experience. Out of which a minimum of 8 years working with technology development field with successful track record of adding revenue growth and expanding product portfolio. 

 

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 

 

REASONING ABILITY:  

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time, walk and reach with hands and arms as well as some bending and/or stooping, Occasional light lifting of reams of paper or books up to 20 lbs. or equivalent may be required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

Majority of work is performed in a typical office environment with no major sources of discomfort.  Essentially a normal controlled working environment with noise levels within acceptable safety limits and acceptable lighting and temperature conditions.
