Title: Director of Quality Assurance, Defense

Responsible for the entire range of quality assurance activities in the organizational unit. Formulates and develops program design, policies and procedures. Issues formal product process specifications and confers with other top management, customers and other representatives in the planning, scheduling, coordinating and directing of the quality assurance program in conformance with customer requirements, engineering specifications, government regulations and production schedules.
Responsible for all aspects of the quality management system within VACCO from the design of product to the delivery to the customer. The following duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Approval, control and monitoring of VACCO supplier base for product needs as well as critical Supplier development.
Quality participation in the design phases of production items in the concurrent engineering board process as well as customer PDR and CDR.
Review/approve paperwork associated with projects (contracts, SOWs, ATP data, blueprints, control plans, data packages, FAI etc.)
Guarantee proper flow down of customer requirements is performed when required.
Ensures purchase order requirements meet customer requirements.
Makes certain that product produced under PO or WO meets the blueprint requirements and/or PO requirements.
Primary contact for customer audits and source inspection.
Responsible for the maintenance/upkeep/improvement of VACCO's quality system procedures.
Provides control over all items which fall under the calibration system.
Primarily responsible for internal audits, preventive actions, corrective actions and the associated follow-up actions.
Responsible charting the voice of the customer, supplier and internal metrics (such as scrap and yields).
Accountable for keeping upper management informed of actions which may impact the quality system while providing all departments with the proper procedures needed to meet customer and regulatory requirements.
Schedule Quality Action Councils/Management Reviews to verify the health of VACCO's quality management system and keeping leadership team informed of any quality issues.
Oversees the control of the MRB system.
Organizes (or) Conducts required training in COPI, MRB and root cause corrective action.
Responsibilities as the ISO Management Representative include the implementation and monitoring of quality plans and systems in assigned areas to assure customer satisfaction and compliance to the ISO 9000 standards.
Internal Audits/Control.
Maintains approved vendor system.
Responsible for handling customer audits and responses.
Maintains corrective action systems.
Critically evaluates on an ongoing basis all quality functions as a basis for improvements in product quality.
Interfaces with Senior Management keeping them informed of all Quality System issues providing pertinent information of all ISO elements within the Quality System prescribed time frame.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises employees in the Quality Assurance Department in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous Quality Assurance management experience preferably in an aerospace manufacturing environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to make independent judgements and decisions in matters having an important influence on company image and product reliability. Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor's or Associate of Science Degree in Engineering or other related fields required; with a minimum of five(5) years of Quality Assurance experience in the manufacture of mechanical valves and filters, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to effectively communicate with other divisions in order to achieve quality objectives. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to create routine reports and correspondence. Comfortable speaking effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Majority of work is performed in a typical office environment with no major sources of discomfort. Essentially a normal controlled working environment with noise levels within acceptable safety limits and acceptable lighting and temperature conditions. On occasion may be required to enter production/receiving area where the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or fumes or airborne particles. Noise level in plant and/or shop work area is usually moderate.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Essentially a normal controlled working environment with noise levels within acceptable safety limits and acceptable lighting and temperature conditions. On occasion may be required to enter production/receiving areas when the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and/jr fumes or airborne particles. Noise level in plant and/or shop work area is usually moderate. Proper safety training and equipment is provided to employee for the safe performance of required duties.
