SUMMARY: 

Electrical engineering technician will work primarily in manufacturing/development setting and work closely with Electrical/Software Engineers to assemble and test electrical and electronic space products and equipment.

 

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL DUTIES:

  • Perform precision assembly on complex development/production electrical, electronic, electromechanical components, sub-systems, systems and test equipment. Test and troubleshoot development and production units.
  • Perform various test operations on development and production electrical and electronic products per written and verbal instructions from the project engineers and supplied documentation.
  • Fabricate and test breadboard circuits, development and production controller boards.
  • Perform assembly, integration and testing/troubleshooting of analog and digital hardware, circuits, controllers, power supply and systems.
  • Perform soldering at the piece-part level of surface mount, small parts such as Thin Quad Flat Package (TQFP) and through-hole components. Soldering certification for J-STD-001 with space addendum preferred.
  • Ability to assemble test setups using valves, pressure sensors, load cells, flow meters and thermocouples.
  • Proficiency in operating standard electronics test equipment: power supplies, digital multi-meters, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzers, function generators, digital recorders, and typical laboratory instruments.
  • Troubleshoot and rework products at a component or system level and help diagnose common test failures or determine possible solutions. Diagnose, recommend and perform rework to correct discrepancies.
  • Utilize electronic measuring equipment and perform tests to validate conformance of the unit to current acceptance test requirements.
  • Responsible for proper documentation and recording of test results on data sheets.
  • Work from assembly drawings, worksheets, parts lists, test specifications, and other written and verbal instructions.
  • Diagnose test failures and perform necessary rework in order to pass test requirements.
  • Positively contribute to the teamwork environment in terms of productivity, initiative, and cooperation to maintain good customer focus.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained and calibrated appropriately and meets specification and functional limits.
  • Plan and execute basic functional and environmental tests including supporting EMC Tests.
  • Setup data acquisition system using equipment such as an Astromed and/or National Instruments C-series.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience performing precision assembly and test of electrical and electromechanical systems. Aerospace industry and significant hydraulic experience is a big plus.
  • Ability to read electrical and electronic drawings and electrical packaging diagrams.
  • Ability to read and use a wide range of precision electrical measurement devices.
  • Experience with diagnosing/troubleshooting electrical/electronic components and test failures.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to learn new and advanced moderately complex instrumentation and data acquisition systems with minimal assistance. Have good data collection skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with customers during witness testing, customer visits and in similar situations.
  • Maintain proper organization and cleanliness of test set ups and work areas. Follows all company safety directives.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum Three (3) year of development technician (electrical, electronic, and electromechanical) experience required.

 

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Basic computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Other laboratory instrumentation and equipment, test rigs, and tooling.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Periodic night shift and weekend work may be required.
  • Work requires general physical fitness; may be required to handle in excess of 25 lbs.
  • Standing and bending throughout shift.
  • May be required to pass near vision and / or color vision examination.
  • Some traveling to customers and test labs may be needed.
