SUMMARY:
The Electrician at VACCO is a critical role responsible for ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of all electrical systems within the facility. This position performs comprehensive electrical maintenance tasks, ranging from routine inspections to complex troubleshooting and repairs across various systems, including HVAC, lighting, compressors, and production equipment. The Electrician engages in the maintenance and repair of alarm systems, electric gates, and general facility machinery, contributing to the overall productivity and safety of the manufacturing operations. With a strong focus on efficiency and effectiveness, the Electrician handles both planned maintenance schedules and spontaneous electrical failures, employing expert knowledge of PLCs and advanced diagnostic tools. This proactive role demands a proactive approach to prevent downtime, optimize system functionality, and support the continuous improvement of facility operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use of electrical test equipment including Multimeter, Insulation Resistance Tester (Megger), Clamp-on Ammeter, and Circuit Tracer. Oscilloscope and Process Loop Calibrator/Tester are desired but not required.
- Effectively determine potential hazards associated with electrical construction, maintenance, and repair activities.
- Proper application of lockout/tagout system.
- Use of PPE Including steel-toed boots, eye protection, life vest, arc flash clothing, filter mask, and electrical safety gloves.
- Install electrical cableways, and secure cables.
- Layout mounts for and mount electrical panels and enclosures.
- Layout mounts for and mount various types of interior and exterior lighting fixtures.
- Correctly terminate electrical distribution panels.
- Terminate wiring for AC and DC Motors.
- Wire control and indication panels given appropriate drawings.
- Troubleshoot and repair AC and DC controllers.
- Troubleshoot and identify problems with DC Motors.
- Troubleshoot and identify problems with sensors and Programmable Logic Control I/O systems.
- Install controllers and electrical control equipment.
- Test electrical distribution equipment and controllers for proper operation.
- Perform installations and maintenance in accordance with National Electric Code (NFPA 70).
- Observe general electrical safety principles (NFPA 70E).
- Develop and or support the development of Scope of Work Documents
- Supports the use of asset management software
- Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to use a computer for basic information gathering, including web browser, MS-Word, and MS-Excel.
- Lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Licensing: Must be a licensed electrician.
- Electrical Safety Requirements: Must be familiar and follow NFPA 70 requirements.
- Blueprints and Drawings: Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, P&ID prints, blueprints and drawings.
- Sizing and Routing: Knowledge of cable, conduit, and junction box sizing and routing/mounting requirements.
- Electrical Theory: Understanding of both AC and DC electrical theory.
- Motor and Controller Operations: AC and DC motor and controller operation and troubleshooting.
- Circuit Knowledge: Circuit breaker operation and control circuits.
- PLC Skills: Proficiency in PLC operation and troubleshooting techniques is required.
- Due to the nature of the work performed U.S. Citizen status is required
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
- This role requires working in a dynamic industrial setting that includes exposure to machinery, noise, chemicals and varying temperature conditions. Safety gear and appropriate personal protective equipment will be provided.
