SUMMARY: 

The Engineer III – Test is responsible for verification and validation activities supporting aerospace, defense, industrial, and naval fluid control products. This position supports all phases of product development from concept and prototype through qualification, acceptance, and production testing. The Engineer III – Test operates within a cross-functional engineering environment and is responsible for developing test strategies, procedures, instrumentation, automated data acquisition systems, and test facilities required to validate product performance, reliability, and compliance with customer and industry requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop test strategies and plans for assigned projects.

Develop test cost and schedule estimates for assigned projects.

Create and maintain project specific documents such as test plans, procedures, work instructions and reports.

Create and maintain test stand schematics.

Provide status and estimates-to-complete for assigned tasks on demand.

Provide engineering surveillance and supervision of internal and outside testing.

Research, select, design, procure, assemble, checkout, operate, document and maintain test stands, facilities, setups, fixtures, tools, software and instrumentation.

Operate a variety of computer automated and manual test equipment including Data Acquisition systems, control systems and sensors.

Manage and maintain in good working order New Product Development test facilities and equipment.

Insure NPD assets are in calibration and good working order.

Regularly interface with the Manufacturing Test Group providing technical assistance as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with production test equipment (e.g. Automatic Test Equipment, thermal chambers and vibration tables). Familiarity of a standard product development and lifecycle process. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, contract documentation, and government/industry standards and specifications. Demonstrated familiarity with data acquisition systems, data analysis and processing. Experience in writing automation applications using LabView or similar tools. Proven skills working independently and in a team environment. Excellent communication skills at all levels within an organization both orally and written. Effectively present reports and data in presentation format. Must possess good analytical skills.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree (B.S.M.E.) from a four-year college or university; a minimum of five (5) years of test engineering or related experience and/or training, preferably in an Aerospace environment; or an equivalent number of years of education. Capable of using computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents such as Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Solidworks, CFDesign, and Cosmos. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and customers.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts/models, to analyze the behavior of physical components and systems; and be competent to derive and interpret these notations using background knowledge and context to design/troubleshoot VACCO products.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time, walk, climb stairs and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Majority of work is performed in a typical office environment with no major sources of discomfort. Essentially a normal controlled working environment with noise levels within acceptable safety limits and acceptable lighting and temperature conditions. On occasion may be required to enter production/receiving area where the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or fumes or airborne particles. Noise level in plant and/or shop work area is usually moderate.
