SUMMARY:
Manages the development and implementation of Quality Assurance/Control function to ensure that VACCO Products meet specifications and contract agreements from the design stage through end of useful product life.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages the development and implementation of quality policies, procedures and process improvements to ensure that VACCO products and services meet specifications, regulatory and contractual requirements.
Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product.
Formulates and maintains quality assurance/control objectives complementary to corporate policies and goals.
Creates and implements inspection criteria and procedures.
Oversee receipt inspection activities and in-process inspection for product throughout production cycle providing necessary manpower.
Coordinates objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other plant managers to maximize product reliability and help minimize costs.
Applies quality management tools and approaches to analytical and reporting processes within each department.
Manages workers engaged in inspection and testing activities as well as in quality engineering to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities and products.
Work with vendors and Supplier Quality Manager to insure the quality of all purchased parts for company use.
Play active role in assuring quality of all purchased parts for company use by responding to requests from Purchasing personnel for on-site source inspection when deemed necessary.
Designs and implements quality assurance/control training programs to key personnel in conjunction with managers.
Investigates and responds to customer rejections or complaints with regard to quality.
Responsible for Material Review Board (MRB), internal audits, corrective/preventive action process and the calibration system.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises employees in the Quality Assurance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous Quality Assurance management experience preferably in an aerospace manufacturing environment. Very strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence peers. Ability to make independent judgments and decisions in matters having an important influence on company image and product quality/reliability. direct knowledge or experience with Six Sigma Training, strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills. Negotiation expertise is preferred. Proficiency in all MS office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio. Strong analytical skills and writing skills are required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (B.A./ B.S.) from a four-year college or university and a minimum of 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Five years of management experience is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical interference, and fundamentals of plain and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
An ASQ Certification: CQA, CQM/OE preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Majority of work is performed in a typical office environment with no major sources of discomfort. Essentially a normal controlled working environment with noise levels within acceptable safety limits and acceptable lighting and temperature conditions. On occasion may be required to enter production area where the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or fumes or airborne particles. Noise level in plant and/or shop work area is usually moderate.
