SUMMARY: 

SUMMARY:

The Strategic Sourcing Manager is responsible for strategic sourcing and procurement of goods and services to support manufacturing and project management.  Complies with company policies and procedures in order to negotiate competitive bids, terms and conditions from various suppliers to obtain best quality, delivery and pricing for goods and services.  Establishes appropriate supplier performance and contract measures in order to assess supplier performance.  Supports purchasing, program management, production, inventory control, quality and other site functional areas in all aspects of procurement activity.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drive supplier performance improvements to meet company established KPIs (Key Performance Indicators).

Research and consult various sources of information to perform competitive benchmarks ensuring the most competitive cost from the supply base.

Works closely with internal supplier quality personnel to address any supplier quality issues.

Maintains strong Supplier relationship to assure suppliers are aligned with company requirements and initiatives to assure a consistent flow of necessary supplies and materials.

Analyzes market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and takes appropriate action to prevent disruption to operations.  Actions taken must be consistent with sound purchasing principals and within company policy.

Exercise considerable initiative, judgment and independence in the selection and procurement of goods and services.

Obtain quotes to support new proposals to critical customers.

Develop new sources of supply to support production needs.

Expedite critical shortages when requested by the Buyers and/or Sr. Buyers.

Negotiates and monitors extended purchase agreements as authorized while complying with company policies and procedures.

Maintain documents in a manner suitable to support and comply with the department and company standard operating procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned by the VP of Supply Chain or Sr. Managers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of 5 years of experience and knowledge using an integrated MRP/ERP system and ability to create management reports.  Previous experience in new product introduction and/or or project management a plus.  Ability to interpret engineering drawings, customer specifications, blue prints, etc.  Strong analytical skills and ability to map out processes and analyze data and information for improvement.  Excellent organizational/project management/communications skills.  Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.  Communicates clearly with all stakeholders of the organization (Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Finance, Supervision).  Proficient in the use of MS Office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or other related field and a minimum 3 years of experience in purchasing in an Aerospace manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time, walk and reach with hands and arms.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Majority of work is performed in a typical office environment with no major sources of discomfort.  Essentially a normal controlled working environment with noise levels within acceptable safety limits and acceptable lighting and temperature conditions. On occasion may be required to enter production/receiving area where the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or fumes or airborne particles. Noise level in plant and/or shop work area is usually moderate.
