SUMMARY: 

SUMMARY: Under limited supervision and general guidelines, works directly with Department Manager in providing pricing and planning for new test systems. Applies knowledge and acquired skills in mechanical and/or electrical technology to assist in the design, fabrication and maintenance of test equipment for VACCO’s manufacturing areas. Set up tests, adjust, align and maintain electro-mechanical systems in our Space, Defense and Avionics divisions. May be required to set up and perform thermal vacuum testing, including working with Engineering in the design and development of such systems.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Working from blueprints and/or schematics build and/or modify complete test systems from conception to design through fabrication, including the acquisition of necessary components, applying skills in tube bending, flaring and mounting, electrical wiring and software interfacing to complete projects as assigned. • May be required to work with Engineering in the design and development of thermal vacuum test systems for use in Manufacturing and/or Engineering development. • Confers with engineering personnel to resolve fabrication problems relating to specifications and review test plans. • Calibrate and setup any data recording equipment, creating equipment manuals, test procedures and/or schematics as needed for new equipment. • May assist in verifying test procedures for company products. • Maintain and repair test equipment. • May assemble and test prototypes from blueprints and/or sketches. • Assist in any training of manufacturing personnel on the use of new equipment/systems, which may include thermal vacuum systems. • Provide maintenance and support for test equipment in all Manufacturing areas i.e. Space, Navy, Aircraft and Filter test areas. • Recommends and maintains involvement in Continuous Process Improvement throughout the Manufacturing Test areas.  • Confer with engineers, technicians, production, quality control and other technical personnel to resolve testing problems such as product or equipment issues, malfunctions, incomplete test data and interpretation with regard to systems design and testing procedures and results in order to resolve problems. • When necessary perform specific duties as a Test Technician in support of Operations or Engineering.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to operate various types of standard and special test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, data acquisition equipment, multimeters and standard precision inspection tools. Knowledge and previous experience working with high vacuum systems a plus. Ability to read and interpret procedures, blueprint and schematic drawings. Possess good leadership and communication skills both verbal and written required to build relationships in order to work in a team environment. Use good judgment in decision making and problem solving. Must demonstrate a proficiency in the use of MS software such as Word and Excel. Basic understanding of manufacturing operation preferably in an Aerospace and/or manufacturing environment.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Two year certificate from college or technical school; or ten (10) years of acquired technical experience in a manufacturing environment and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
