Title:  Saw Operator

The Saw Operator performs sawing of aerospace grade materials including metal and plastics and products according to job specifications using an Amada Horizontal band saw machine.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Sets up and operates the band saws to cut and trim materials to size on work order and cuts cards by measuring lengths of cut with tape measure.

• Determines metal to be cut, type of blade to be used, blade tension, cutting speed, feed rate, and positions of table stops and guides and positions them to align and secure workpiece.

• Relieves saw blade support and drive wheel tension when necessary.

• Place saw blade over wheels and resets tension to change blade and adjust tension as needed.

• Calculates and marks layout lines, cuts various types of materials for a broad range of applications.

• Verify dimensions of finished material using measuring devices & inspect for defects in material.

• Properly secure work pieces against the stops on the machine bed to avoid cutting errors or flaws.

• Monitors work to ensure overall efficiency.

• Ensures that identification is on each piece cut.

• Any other duties deemed appropriate by management 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience working with saws cutting various materials including but not limited to stainless steel, Inconel, copper/nickel and plastics.

• Detail oriented and process knowledge of production procedures with an ability to read work instructions.

• Ability to work independently as well as a team environment when necessary.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Minimum requirement of a high school diploma or GED Certificate and 3+ years of technical experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment to support machine shop demands.
