SUMMARY:
The Offsite Supplier Quality Source Inspector is responsible for performing inspections of critical complex aerospace machine components and supporting martials at supplier facilities to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, quality requirements, certification packs, test reports and first article inspection reports (AS9102). Utilize precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other inspection equipment to inspect and validate parts.
Responsible for monitoring suppliers and maintaining the list of suppliers. Plays a key role in determining the status of the supplier. Daily interactions with suppliers for on-site visits and telecoms. Internal communications with various departments including
Engineering, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Purchasing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitoring and managing the Supplier Database. Evaluating the supplier’s ability to meet VACCO’s requirements by reviewing checklists and performance goals. Notifying suppliers of performance status and working with Finance to set up the vendor in the ERP System.
Ensuring supplier records are current by contacting suppliers and conducting internet searches for current third-party certification. Organizing and electronically filing the updated certifications and audits.
Generates monthly supplier metrics and quarterly scorecards. Analyzes and draws conclusions based on the data. Provides valuable data analysis to management concerning data trends and supplier performance.
Daily interaction with various departments, to identify and resolve supplier quality challenges related to generated data and other sources. Capable of communicating with suppliers to improve their Quality performance.
Ability to work with suppliers to improve their performance. Able to provide and support ideas for improving the supplier management process.
Schedules and performs supplier audits for: Level 1 verification/qualification, supplier performance, and training. This includes both on-site audits, supplier visits to VACCO and supplier telecoms. Capable of creating and updating supplier audit checklists based on internal and external requirements.
Performs internal audits and capable of becoming a lead auditor.
Drive “First Time Quality and Zero Defect” culture within the supply base.
Must be willing to travel to both local and out-of-state suppliers. Job includes about 20% travel with about 1-3 out of state trips annually.
ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non‐conformities relating to products, processes, and quality systems.
Identify and record any problems relating to the product process and quality system.
Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels.
Verify the implementation of solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of ISO 9001:2000, AS9100 and Government Specifications. Able to work with various internal groups and teams and can prioritize and successfully manage multiple tasks. Possesses good communication skills both verbally and written, to support effective correspondence with internal personnel as well as external suppliers. Proficient in the use of MS Office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Ability to read and interpret blueprint drawings and specifications is a must. Ability to work independently at supplier locations.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 1 year of Study in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing related field. A minimum of ten (10) years of experience and/or training in a Quality Assurance Department in an engineering or manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts using proper English sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group. Ability to communicate actions is a positive manner to internal and external parties.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret graphs. Must be able to interpret blueprints and written specifications.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to analyze data and draw conclusions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The employee frequently is required to stand, sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Majority of work is done in a typical office environment with no major sources of discomfort. Essentially a normal controlled working environment with noise levels within acceptable safety limits and acceptable lighting and temperature conditions. On a regular basis may be required to enter production area where the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or fumes or airborne particles. Noise level in plant and/or shop work area is usually moderate. Proper safety training and equipment is provided to employee for the safe performance of required duties.
