SUMMARY:
Evaluate quality processes, procedures and statistical techniques, analyze production and service limitations and standards; recommend revisions of specifications when indicated; assist in the formulation of quality policies and procedures; continuously interfacing with all engineering departments as well as with customers and suppliers on quality related issues. Responsible for specific customers, programs and projects, reviewing customer quotes and contracts for quality requirements and ship acceptable quality products to the customer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares quality plans as required and reviews planning for approval or rejection recommending process improvements, reviewing and/or approving changes to the specifications and procedures, reviews costs associated with quality requirements.
Has a clear understanding of the knowledge and skill necessary to satisfactorily perform all assigned responsibilities including review of all documents and procedures.
Analyzes compiled data from tests and inspection reports to identify problems. Reviews data and submits results to Quality Control for review and action with regards to any rejected materials (or processes) on assigned jobs.
Daily interaction with internal Engineering group including Design and Manufacturing Engineers, to identify and resolve product quality problems.
Serves as a Quality Assurance representative as a member of the Material Review Board (MRB) participating in various continuous improvement projects in an effort to identify and resolve recurring product problems. Leads failure investigations, issues corrective action, preventative action and customer complaint to the responsible parties.
Performs lean and process improvement projects in a team environment.
While assisting production personnel with quality issues, approves or rejects any rework/repair instructions for discrepant material.
Reviews all quotes/contracts, work orders, Purchase Requisitions, Assembly Procedures (AP) and Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP).
Requests and coordinates customer/government source inspection needs between customer, government and VACCO. Attends all meetings involving customer/government source representatives.
Prepares and reviews final data package, making sure an acceptable quality product is delivered to the customer.
Performs internal audits as well as assists in completing "external" audits.
Performs/receives cross training with other quality engineers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Exposure to Government contracts and familiarity with ISO 9001 and AS9100 (Current Revision). Knowledge of inspection methods in the design and fabrication of product is required. Able to work with various internal groups and teams and have the ability to prioritize and successfully manage multiple tasks, simultaneous projects and deadlines. Possess excellent verbal communication skills both verbal and written, to support effective correspondence with internal as well as external customers/suppliers. Proficient in the use of MS Office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Ability to read and interpret Blueprint drawings and specifications.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering discipline with minimum of five (5) years of experience and/or training in a Quality Assurance Department in an Aerospace manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts using proper English sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Should be able to interpret blueprints and written specifications. Statistical understanding, application and utilization.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to lead small groups in problem solving exercises.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The employee frequently is required to stand, sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Majority of work is performed in a typical office environment with no major sources of discomfort. Essentially a normal controlled working environment with noise levels within acceptable safety limits and acceptable lighting and temperature conditions. On a regular basis may be required to enter production area where the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or fumes or airborne particles. Noise level in plant and/or shop work area is usually moderate. Proper safety training and equipment is provided to employee for the safe performance of required duties.
